Flexible
Service Processor (FSP) Configuration
Communication from the HMC to a POWER6 system is done through the Flexible Service Processor (FSP).
The picture
at top left is a rear view of a model 9117-MMA server. The
HMC is connected to a dedicated port on the service processor of
the server via an Ethernet connection.
Follow the installation
instruction for your POWER6 server. Once the HMC has been cabled
and connected to the managed system, follow the instructions in
topic HMC Configuration to install
and configure the HMC software. Do not yet connect the managed system
to a power source.
After the HMC
has been installed and configured, connect the managed system to
a power source. The HMC will automatically 'discover' the managed
system and it will appear both in the Navigation Pane
and the Work Pane of the HMC's Web interface.
