Locations and LEDs: Front

As indicated in the illustration at left, locations P1-D1 through P1-D12 represent Disk Drive 1 through Disk Drive 12, respectively. These are the only components visible from the front of the FC 5886 enclosure.

Disk drive rules include:

  • A FC 5886 attached to a system running AIX/Linux can hold any combination of FC 3646, FC 3647, or FC 3648 SAS disk units.
  • A FC 5886 attached to a system running i5/OS can hold any combination of FC 3676, FC 3677, or FC 3678 SAS disk units.
  • AIX/Linux and i5/OS disk units cannot be mixed in the same enclosure.
  • Since an EMS “sees” all disk bays, disk drive placement in any slot is acceptable.

The LEDs on the front of FC 5886 are shown at left. Note that each disk drive has its own pair of LEDs. If the amber Identify (Locate)/Attention LED on any disk drive is on solid, the amber Identify (Locate)/ Attention LED on the enclosure lights solid as well.
