Managing Profile Data

Logical partition profiles on your managed system should be backed up after changes are made to partition profiles and before updating HMC software.

To back up profile data for a managed system:

  1. In the navigation pane, select Systems Management to list the system resources.
  2. Select Servers.
  3. Select the desired managed system.
  4. In the tasks pad, select Configuration to list the available tasks.
  5. From the tasks list, select Manage Partition Data and Backup. The Profile Data Backup window displays. (See below left.)
  6. In the Profile Data Backup window, enter the name for the new backup file.

From the Manage Partition Data task list, you can also:

  • Restore partition data from a previous backup.
  • Initialize partition data on your managed system (Initializing partition data will delete all currently defined system profiles, partitions, and partition profiles).
  • Delete partition data.

Backup profile data is stored on the HMC itself and may be used to restore the managed system after firmware updates and in the event of system failure.
