Backing Up HMC Data

Through the HMC, you can back up critical HMC console data to the HMC's DVD-RAM drive or offload the data to a remote system. Back up the HMC after you have made changes to the HMC or to the information associated with partitions (see Managing Profile Data). You can set up an automated backup of critical console data through the HMC Management-->Schedule Operations task.

The archived HMC data should only be used in conjunction with a reinstallation of the HMC from the product CDs. This is done via the HMC's Update option.

To back up console data:

  1. In the Navigation Pane, select HMC Management.
  2. In the Work Pane, select Backup HMC Data.
  3. Select an archive option. You may backup to DVD on the HMC, backup to a remote system mounted to the HMC file system (i.e. NFS), or send the backup to a remote site via FTP.

To back up to DVD, choose Back up to DVD on local system. Follow the instructions on the screen to back up the data.
