4.16 Removing and Replacing the System Board

  Removing the system board

To remove the system board:

  1. Turn off the HMC and any attached devices, and disconnect all power cords.
  2. Remove the cover. (Refer to Removing and Replacing the Cover.)
  3. Remove all riser card assemblies and adapters. (Refer to Removing and Replacing the Riser Card Assembly and Removing and Replacing the Adapter.)
  4. Disconnect all cables from the system board. Make a list of each cable as you disconnect it. You can then use this as a checklist during system board installation.
  5. Remove all heat sinks and microprocessors, and set them aside on a static-protective surface for reinstallation (Refer to Removing and Replacing the Microprocessor and Heat Sink.)
  6. Remove the memory modules and set them aside on a static-protective surface for reinstallation. (Refer to Removing and Replacing the Memory Module (DIMM.)

Start the video ...

  1. Remove two air baffles from the system board. (If one was previously removed, remove the remaining air baffle. (Refer to Removing and Replacing the Air Baffle.)
  2. Disconnect the power-supply backplane. Slide it to the side and set it out of the way. (Refer to Removing and Replacing the Power-supply Backplane.)
  3. Remove the six screws on the system board that secure the system board to the chassis.
  4. Remove the four hex standoff screws from the serial connector and the video connector at the rear of the HMC.
  5. Lift the system board slightly so that it disengages from the locator pin.
  6. Slide the system board slightly toward the front of the HMC.
  7. Lift up the left side of the system board.
  8. Lift the rest of the system board and carefully remove it from the HMC, being careful not to disturb any surrounding components.
