If
the diagnostic tests did not diagnose the failure or if the HMC
is inoperative, work through the following items to resolve the
problem:
If you suspect
that a software problem is causing failures, refer to the Service
Guide for Deskside and Rack-mounted Consoles manual
for information about the troublshooting tables.
Damaged data
in CMOS memory or damaged BIOS code can cause undetermined problems.

Check the
LEDs on all the power supplies. If the LEDs indicates that the
power supplies are working correctly, complete the following steps:
- Turn
off the HMC.
- Make
sure that the HMC is cabled correctly.
- Remove
or disconnect the following devices, one at a time, until
you find the failure. Turn on the HMC and reconfigure it each
time.
- Any
external devices
- Surge-suppressor
device (on the HMC)
- Modem
and mouse
- Each
adapter
- Hard
disk drive
- Memory
modules (The minimum configuration
requirement is 1 GB (two 512 MB DIMMs in DIMM slots 1
and 3)
- Service
processor.
- Turn
on the HMC. If the problem remains, suspect the following components
in the following order:
- System
board
- Memory
module
- Microprocessor
- SAS/SATA
controller (7042-C06 only)
