Obtaining BIOS and Other Code Updates

If the BIOS code has become damaged, such as from a power failure during an update, you can recover the BIOS code using the boot block jumper and BIOS code update.

As mentioned earlier, the IBM Power Systems 7042 Hardware Management Consoles are adapted from IBM System x products. Section 2.1 includes a table showing which System x products correspond to which 7042 HMCs.

In most cases, IBM posts HMC BIOS and firmware updates on-line as System x downloads. These are accessed through the IBM Systems Support Site. To do this:

  1. From a server with an Internet connection, go to the IBM Systems Support Site at this address:

    http://www.ibm.com/systems/support

The main 'Support for IBM Systems' screen, shown at left, is displayed.

  2. Under the Product Support heading, click on System x. The 'Support for IBM System x' screen, shown on the next page, is displayed.

Continue with Step 3 on the next page.
