Modifying an Existing Certificate

You can only modify properties of a self-signed certificate. The only self-signed certificate properties that can be modified are Valid Until, Subject, and Subject Alternative Names.

To modify the properties of an existing self-signed certificate:

  1. In the Manage Certificates window, select the property you want to modify, select Selected, then select Modify.
  • If you selected the Valid Until property, the Modify Expiration window displays.

    1. Change the number of days for which the certificate will be valid.
    2. To save the changed value, click OK.

  • If you selected the Subject value to modify, the Modify Certificate window displays.

  • If you selected the Subject Alternative Names value to modify, the Modify DNS and IP Address window displays. You can add a DNS name or IP address to or remove a DNS name or IP address from the list of valid entries for the console.

The DNS names and IP addresses listed provide another means to access the HMC through a Web browser. In other words, to access the HMC from a browser without causing the browser to display a security warning, you can specify any of the items in the list of subject alternative names (for example, an IP address) as the URL. Normally, the browser verifies that the hostname and optional domain name specified as the URL matches the common name (CN=) field of the certificate. However, if this does not match, the browser attempts to match the hostname and/or IP address specified with an item in the list of subject alternative names.

    1. To add an entry, enter the DNS name or IP address in the appropropriate field and click Add.
  • To remove an entry, select the DNS name or IP address from the existing list and click Remove.

    1. To save the values, click OK.
  1. After you modified and saved the values, in the Management Certificates window, click Apply to save the changes to the certificate.
