Creating
a New Self-signed Certificate or a Certificiate Signing Request
You
can create a self-signed certificate or create a certificate signing
request (CSR) for the server where a CA certificate will be installed.
The process for creating a self-signed certificate or a CSR is the
same. However, when creating an CSR, the criteria for some of the
information is more precise. (See below.)
- In
the Manage Certificates window, select Create.
Then select New Certificate. The Certificate
Signing window displays.
- In
the Certificate Signing window, choose how you want your certificate
signed - Self-signed or Signed by a Certificate
Authority.
- Click
OK. The New Certificate window displays.
- The New
Certificate window allows you to enter information about the self-signed
certificate or CSR. This information includes the organization
name, organization unit, country code, state or province, locality,
number of days until the certificate expires, and an email address.
Only the Number of days before expiration field
is required.
Organization - is the name of the corporation,
limited partnership, university, or government agency. For a certificate
signed by a certifying authority, the organization name must
be registered with some authority at the national, state, or city
level and must be the legal name your organization is registered
with.
Organization unit - is the department or organization
unit name within the organization.
Two letter country or region code – is
the two-character code without punctuation for the country.
State or Province – is the state or province
name where the organization owning the console operates. For a
certifcate signed by a certifying authority, the state
or province must not be abbreviated.
Locality – is the city or locality name
where the organization owning the console operates. For a certificate
signed by a certifying authority, the name must not be abbreviated.
NOTE: For organizations outside the United State or Canada, only
the State or Province OR the Locality field must be specified.
Both fields are not required.
Number of days until expiration - is the number
of days that the certificate is valid, beginning from the time
the certificate is created.
E-mail address - is the e-mail address of the
contact person(s) for this console.
