Question & Answer
Question
What is the default distribution key when using the CTAS command?
Answer
It is a best practice to define explicit distribution keys when using the CTAS (Create Table As) command. However if you do not do so, a CTAS table inherits its distribution keys from the parent table.
If there is no deducible distribution key or the source stream into the table has round robin distribution, the default distribution key for CTAS tables is the first column (hash distribution).
For more information about handling distribution keys, refer to the Netezza Performance Server Database User's Guide.
