PM68133: MIXED ROW FORMAT WAS MADE BY REORG WHEN PBG GROWS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The customer's zparm SPRMRRF is DISABLE.
  There is a PBG tablespace which has RRF as the row format in
  the current partitions.
  During a SHRLEVEL REFERENCE REORG on the entire PBG, a new
  partition growed. The REORG completed without abend, but the
  newly grown partition contains mixed row format:
  - The header page says it is BRF.
  - SYSTABLEPART.Format says it is BRF.
  - The first row in each data page is in RRF, the rest rows are
  in BRF.
  Some days later, when a REORG run on this PBG, it abended with
  RC00C9010 on DSNIDM.DSNIRFNX 5362.
  

Local fix

• Before running REORG on a PBG, modify the zparm SPRMRRF to match
  the row format in the current partitions, then change it back
  after REORG completes.

  User has an existing partitioned by growth (PBG) table space
  with all partitions defined in Reordered Row Format (RRF).
  With the zParm RRF=DISABLE, a REORG TABLESPACE SHRLEVEL
  REFERENCE was run on this table space. During the RELOAD
  phase of REORG, a new PBG partition was created in mixed
  row format with the first row in Reordered Row Format (RRF)
  and the rest of the rows in Basic Row Format (BRF). A
  subsequent REORG TABLESPACE SHRLEVEL REFERENCE failed with
  ABEND04E RC00C90101 due to the inconsistent row format.
  
  A similar problem can occur with REORG SHRLEVEL CHANGE.
  

Problem conclusion

• Code has been modified so that REORG TABLESPACE SHRLEVEL
  REFERENCE and CHANGE will keep newly created PBG partitions
  in RRF format when the output table space format is RRF,
  regardless of what the RRF zParm value is.
