Error description

  • Customer had previously requested the ability to monitor real
memory in (MB). In FP06 this was added as "Resident Set Size
(MB)" (pre FP06 you only had "Resident Set Size (Pages)").
The attribute is available in the situation editor. But under a
    certan scenario, it is not.
Scenario A - attribute is available in the situation editor.
    1. Open the situation editor via the menu, icon or shortcut.
    2. Select Linux OS and click the Create new situation icon at
    the top.
    3. Enter any name for the situation and leave everything else
as is (description blank, monitored application greyed out and
standard situation selected under type) and click OK.
    4. With the radio button "Attribute Type" left selected under
condition type, select Linux Process for the attribute group.
    5. Notice that "Resident Set Size (Pages)" and "Resident Set
    Size (MB)" are both available.
Scenario B - attribute is available.
    1. Goto the process workspace under any Linux agent.
    2. Right click on any process name and select properties.
    3. In the query tab, click "Click here to assign a query."
    4. In the query editor (Lunux Process > Process should be
highlighted), click the Create query icon at the top.
    5. Enter any name for the query identity and leave everything
else as is (description blank, Linux OS selected under
category, and TEMS selected under data source) and click OK.
    6. Select Linux Process for the attribute group.
    7. Notice that "Resident Set Size (Pages)" and "Resident Set
    Size (MB)" are both available.
Scenario C - attribute is not available.
    1. Goto the process workspace under any Linux agent.
    2. Right click on any process name and select properties.
    3. In the query tab, click "Click here to assign a query."
    4. In the query editor (Lunux Process > Process should be
highlighted), click the Create another query icon at the top.
    5. Enter any name and click OK.
    6. In the specification tab, click "Add attributes..."
    7. Notice that "Resident Set Size (Pages)" is available, but
"Resident Set Size (MB)" is not.

Local fix

  • Use scenario B to create the query rather than scenario C.

Problem summary

  • The Linux OS attribute "Resident Set Size (MB)" is not avaiable
    for selection
in the TEP Situation Editor and TEP Query Editor.

The missing attribute problem occurs when the "Create
Another..." option is used when authoring a new situation or
query using the TEP editor(s). The editors would be need to be
launched via the context menu actions associated with a selected
TEP navigator item (e.g., a Linux OS agent instance).

Problem conclusion

  • The problem was due to a defect in the filtering logic
    associated with the attribute
versioning. This logic was correct to allow the up-leveled
    attribute to be shown
    in the editors for selection.
