Abstract
A problem has been identified with one of our SAS-SATA bridges when it is introduced to more than eight different SAS adapter ports. In some instances, the bridge fails to communicate properly with the new SAS adapter port, resulting in disk failures.

- You can introduce new SAS adapter ports to a disk by:
- 1) Changing cables from one port on an existing SAS adapter to another.
2) Replacing one SAS adapter with another SAS adapter.
The problem affects all disk drives that use this particular bridge.

If you encounter this issue, you can recover by rebooting the system.
The best way to avoid running into this issue is to ensure that the disk firmware is up-to-date. You also should update the IOM module firmware to get the complete fix. Download and install the "All HDD Firmware" bundle from the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) and Solid State Drive (SSD) Firmware software package on the Download section of the N series Support website. This bundle updates all the disk firmware images to the latest recommended release. This bundle is compatible with all current releases of Data ONTAP.
The disk firmware for X302_SMOOS01TSSM and X310_SMOOST50SSM is only available by upgrading Data ONTAP, beginning with 8.0.4P1 and 8.1.2P1.
