Problem

Collecting data for Out of Memory errors (OutOfMemoryError) with IBM WebSphere Application Server. Gathering this MustGather information before calling IBM Support will help familiarize you with the troubleshooting process and save you time.

Resolving The Problem

This MustGather details how to collect necessary logs for an OutOfMemory exception on AIX, Linux, or Windows.
Collect the following:
  • core.*.dmp
  • heapdump*.phd
  • javacore*.txt
  • Snap*.trc
  • server.xml file for the server experiencing the OutOfMemory exception.
  • All files located in the following directory:
    • AIX or Linux:
      profile_root/logs/server_name
      ** Zip up all files in the directory and send them
    • Windows:
      profile_root\logs\server_name
      ** Zip up all files in the directory and send them
Please collect data for a single OOM event on a single server unless otherwise instructed.
 
** Note: verbosegc data is very helfpul with analyzing OutOfMemory issues.  If you do not already have verbosegc enabled, it would be good to enable it and set up rotating logs per:
