Scalability and Performance of Business Space and Human Task Management Widgets in WebSphere Process Server v7

White paper

Abstract

With Business Space, WebSphere Process Server (WPS) Version 7 provides a powerful end-user client that can be equipped with many widgets to meet the specific needs of a business user. In contrast to administrative clients like the Administrative Console or Business Process Choreographer (BPC) Explorer, business-user clients like Business Space need to be scaled up to support thousands of users.
In 2010, mass-user tests were performed in the Böblingen software development laboratory to analyze the performance and scalability of Business Space for Human Workflow. Under realistic circumstances (hardware, number of end-users, think times, etc.), scaling up from 10 to 5000 Business Space users has been achieved and measuring the response times for end-users. The results of these tests are presented in this paper. In addition, this paper provides insight into the testing methodology and provides some best practices and tuning tips for mass-user-deployments of Business Space for Human Workflow.
