IBM Support

Unable to authenticate with DataStage configured for PAM and IMPERSONATION mode off on AIX

Troubleshooting

Problem

Authentication fails with an error 80011 when configuring DataStage to use PAM authentication and turning DataStage impersonation mode off on AIX

Cause

When Impersonation mode is turned off, the dsrpcd daemon will run as the dsadm user instead of as root. On AIX, the pam_aix library requires the calling process to be run as root. If the calling process is not root, the PAM authentication will fail.

Resolving The Problem

The only way to get around this would be to change the PAM configuration file to use a different module that does not have this restriction, for example, pam_krb5. In this case, you would also need to have Kerberos configured on your system as well.
