ITNM 3.9 TCR Cognos reports will not initialize

Technote (troubleshooting)


Problem(Abstract)

Attempting to open Reporting-->Common Reporting produces "DPR-2109" error message.

Symptom

Found this error in reportCLI.log:

FINEST: ENTER^DPR-ERR-2109 The dispatcher cannot service the request at
this time. The dispatcher is still initializing. Contact your administrator if this problem persists.^n^ Mar 28, 2011 5:22:03 PM com.ibm.tivoli.reporting.advanced.cognos.helper.ReportingException

Cause

In a non-root user environment, the Cognos reports were executed using the root user at one time and this caused some of the files to be owned by root.


Diagnosing the problem

If the Cognos Configuration is opened and modified by the root user and saved then it is possible to

have files in Cognos installation tree to now be owned by root.
The Cognos user (non-root user) will now not have the needed access to these files.


Resolving the problem

Go through the files in the "$TIPHOME/../tipv2Components/TCRComponent/cognos" folder and check for files owned by root, then change the file ownership and or group as needed.

Example:

For example to check for files in the TCRComponent and beyond that are owned by root:


"find $TIPHOME/../tipv2Components/TCRComponent -user root -ls"

To change a file's ownership to the "netcool" user:

chown netcool <filename>

Restart the tip server with the recommended procedure of:


itnm_stop tip

itnm_start tip
