Using the Data Protection for VMware Mount application to mount a volume can result in an FBSM1012I message if the volume is stored on a tape or VTL volume and Mount has not been configured to run in "Tape Mode".
The following message is seen in the "Create virtual volume from selected partition:" section of the Data Protection for VMware Mount GUI:
FBSM1012I The partition structure of the selected disk cannot be parsed. Either the disk is not an MBR-based disk, or it contains partitions of unsupported types.
The snapshot volume is stored on tape, but Data Protection for VMware Mount has not been configured to run in Tape Mode.
Diagnosing the problem
1. Navigate to one of the following directories: (The examples are the default locations.)
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tivoli\TSM\TDPVMware\Mount\
Note: Some of the directories have the 'hidden' attribute set and will not be visible until the attribute is changed, or the Tools > Folder Options > View > "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
2. Open the TDP_FOR_VMWARE_MOUNT040.sf file in a text editor.
3. Look for the following error:
E18.XPR MOUNT : AFS::TSM_ReadFile: Error on DSM_GetData 9: ANS1309I (RC9) The requested data is offline.
Resolving the problem
Refer to the "Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments - Data Protection for VMware Tape Support Statement" document linked to in the Related URL section of this DCF for details on using tape storage and how to configure Data Protection for VMware Mount to run in Tape Mode.
Please note that the document contains a tool for switching Mount to Tape Mode - it is recommended to use the tool instead of manually editing the config file.
