Database Backup Failure when Localhost is No Longer Valid
A Tivoli Storage Manager server database backup may fail, indicating a failure to connect to the Tivoli Storage Manager server by the API.
The server actlog reports:
ANR2980E Database backup terminated TCPIP failure - DB2 sqlcode -2033
The tsmdbmgr.log reports:
ANS5216E Could not establish a TCP/IP connection with address
'LOCALHOST:1500'. The TCP/IP error is 'Connection refused' (errno = 79).
ANS9020E Could not establish a session with a TSM server or client
agent. The TSM return code is -50.
The most likely cause is if there are DNS or host translation issues on the TSM server system.
Diagnosing the problem
Check the value of the TCPSERVERADDRESS option in the dsm.sys file that the API is using for database backups. If it is set to a host address (like "loopback" or "localhost"), then ping that name and see if it returns the actual loopback address (127.0.0.1) or if it returns a different address.
Resolving the problem
Correct the host translation or DNS issue, OR explicitly set the TCPSERVERADDRESS option to 127.0.0.1.
