Backup and Restore hangs intermittently with NetDMA Enabled.

Technote (troubleshooting)

Backups and Restores hang intermittently when the NetDMA feature is enabled for Network Adapter Cards.

The backup or restore will start as normal but after a while it will stop processing new files for backup or restore. During a restore session, the restore will suddenly stop restoring files but on the Tivoli Storage Manager Server you will still see the restore session in a SendW state. For example :

Sess Number: 1,364,622
Comm. Method: Tcp/Ip
Sess State: SendW
Wait Time: 1.0 H
Bytes Sent: 1.7 G
Bytes Recvd: 64.3 K
Sess Type: Node
Platform: WinNT
Client Name: NODENAME

Network Settings on the Adapter card causing conflicts.

Resolving the problem

The NetDMA feature needs to be disabled as it is causing backup/restore issues intermittently. Refer to the following Microsoft article for instructions on how to disable NetDMA.
