CTGIN2074E: Exception caught creating ICfgConfigurationStep object

Technote (troubleshooting)

This document applies only to the following language version(s):

English

Problem(Abstract)

During product installation, errors show up related to the ICfgConfigurationStep

Symptom

You receive the following errors:

CTGIN2206I: Cannot to save the properties file.
or
CTGIN2074E: Exception caught creating ICfgConfigurationStep object

You find the following errors in log files:

com.ibm.tivoli.ccmdb.install.common.config.CfgJ2EEConfigFactory.getInstance()
Exception Instantiating Application Server Configuration Object ICFGConfiguration could not save properties file

Cause

This issue is caused when a fresh install is attempted against an existing Maximo database.

Usually appears after attempting to install a fresh instance of CCMDB (or Maximo) and the installation is cancelled and then you attempt to run the installation again, before going through the uninstall process first.

Environment

Windows

Diagnosing the problem

On the UI:

CTGIN2206I: Cannot to save the properties file.
or
CTGIN2074E: Exception caught creating ICfgConfigurationStep object

And logs show:

com.ibm.tivoli.ccmdb.install.common.config.CfgJ2EEConfigFactory.getInstance()
Exception Instantiating Application Server Configuration Object ICFGConfiguration could not save properties file

Resolving the problem

This workaround is if, and only if, you are attempting a new install (no existing Maximo)

If you got the errors above drop the tables that the installer will check to verify an existing Maximo database, which are:
maxobjectcfg
maxvars
maxprop
wplabor
maxpropvalue

Dropping the tables will result in data loss.
