Enabling Flash Execution in AppScan Standard is not finding Flash URLs

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Why are Flash URLs not being found when Flash Execution is enabled in IBM Rational AppScan Standard?

Cause

AppScan's Flash Browser looks like a browser with no plug-ins, by default. Some sites use scripts that detect the Flash Plug-ins, and when they are not found, a JPG file is returned instead of the Flash File.

Answer

You need to have AppScan's Flash Browser mimic Mozilla's browser so that the scripts detect the Flash Plug-ins, which will display the Flash Files.

Use these steps to configure AppScan to mimic Mozilla's functionality:

  1. Close the AppScan process
  2. Open the AppScan install folder, which by default is C:\program files\IBM\Rational AppScan
  3. Open DefaultOptions.xml in Notepad
  4. Look for <option enum="ebCOTMimicMozilla" and set the value to True
