Unable to connect to TSO client server from z/OS side

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote explains why the error []VIEW_NETWORK_NAME was not specified[] might occur when setting up a TSO client to connect to IBM® Rational® ClearCase®.

Symptom

Attempts to configure a TSO client to connect to ClearCase results in the following error:


VIEW_NETWORK_NAME was not specified. 'view' was taken as a default
--|Possible Error:
--|  HOST was specified as localhost, 127.0.0.1 or a dotted name and
ACTUAL_HOST was not defined.
--|  If the authmode 2 feature is being used the host name of the TSO
Client Server machine must
--|  be specified in the ACTUAL_HOST parameter.

Additional symptoms found in the log file called: userid.TSC.LOG

Cause

There was a problem with the z/OS system name resolution.

The distributed Windows system could not resolve the host name.

Resolving The Problem

Configure the z/OS system name and IP address into your DNS tables.
