High-level upgrade steps to upgrade from Maximo 4.1.1P+ to Maximo 7.6


Maximo Upgrade 4.1.1P+ to 5.1
1. Upgrade to Maximo 4.1.1 latest patch.
2. Install the Maximo 4-5 upgrade utilities
3. Upgrade the Maximo 4.1.1 database to Maximo 5.1.0 using the Maximo 4-5 upgrade utilities.
Note: Maximo 5.x installation isn’t needed. Maximo 5.1 Control Center may be needed for the following upgrade to Maximo 6

Maximo Upgrade 5.1/5.2P9/6.0/6.1 to 6.2.8
1. Install (unzip) Maximo Upgrade 6.5.1.1 package.
(To obtain the 6.5.1.1, fill out and submit the Request form from the Maximo Upgrade Resources page)
a. Install (unzip) the Maximo Upgrade 6.5.1.1 latest hotfix, download from:
https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24024327&wv=1
2. Download/install the Maximo 6.5.1.1 cumulative hotfix from: www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24024327
3. Edit the \maximo\applications\maximo\properties\maximo.properties file to point to the Maximo 5.x database you are upgrading. The following values should be changed as appropriate:
mxe.db.schemaowner=[database schema name]
mxe.db.driver=[database schema name]
mxe.db.url=[database server, port and database name]

4. Download and install Maximo 6.2.8 fix pack.
5. Install any Industry Solution/Add-ons products.
6. Complete pre-upgrade steps in the Maximo 5-6 upgrade guide.
7. Follow the upgrade guide to run the upgrade utility programs (upgradeui). Note: This will only upgrade the database to Maximo 6.0. See Upgrade Guide Maximo Releases 4.1.1 and 5 to IBM Maximo Release 6

Best Practice: Make a database dump after completing the Validation phase, that way if the upgrade phase fails, you'll have a quick recovery point.

8. Complete the post-upgrade steps from the upgrade guide to complete the database upgrade to Maximo 6.2.8
9. Apply the latest Maximo 6.2.8 cumulative hotfix - contact Support to obtain the latest hotfix.
Note: The Maximo 6 to 7 upgrade program supports SQL Server 2000 and 2005, but not 2008. Once you have successfully upgraded the SQL Server database to 7.1.1.5+, you can then migrate the database to SQL Server 2008, if desired.

Maximo Upgrade 6.2.8+HF to Base Services 7.1.1.13 (The upgrade program is only to upgrade Maximo 6 and Maximo 6 Industry Solutions/Add-ons – other IBM products (CCMDB, TSRM, TAMIT) should not be installed at this time, but can be installed once the upgrade is complete.)
Recommend new Maximo version installs on newer server
1. Install Base Services 7.1.1.5 application, (create new database)
2. Install Base Services 7.1.1.13 update (matched release for Maximo 6.2.8)
3. Install any Industry Solution/Add-ons products.
4. Edit the ibm\SMP\maximo\applications\maximo\properties\maximo.properties file on the Base Services version 7 administrative workstation to point to the Maximo 6.2.8 database you are upgrading. The following values should be changed as appropriate:
mxe.db.url=[database server, port and database name]
6. Complete pre-upgrade steps from the Maximo 6-7 upgrade guide.
7. Follow the upgrade guide to run the upgrade utilities program (upgradeui).
(Note: This will upgrade the database to Base Services 7.1.1.13. )

Recommend new Maximo version installs on newer server
1. Complete pre-upgrade steps from the Maximo 7.5 upgrade guide.

2. Install Maximo 7.5, point to the Maximo 7.1.1.13, \ibm\SMP directory and complete the install/partial upgrade to Maximo 7.5.0.0 - only lays down the files.
3. Install Maximo 7.5.0.11 fix pack.
4. Install any Industry Solution/Add-ons products.
5. Complete the post-upgrade steps from the upgrade guide.

Maximo Upgrade 7.5.0.x to Maximo 7.5.0.11
If you have Maximo Asset Management 7.5.0.x installed, you can install the Maximo
Asset Management 7.5.0.11 fix pack.

1. Install Maximo 7.5.0.11, point to the Maximo 7.5.0.x, \ibm\SMP directory and complete the install/update to Maximo 7.5.0.11.
2. Install any Industry Solution/Add-ons products updates.
3. Complete the post-upgrade steps from the upgrade guide.
