Does SmartSuite Release 9.8 run on Windows XP?
Yes, SmartSuite has been tested on Windows 95/98/ME/NT4/2000 and Windows XP.
Are any of the SmartSuite Release 9.8 applications sold separately?
Lotus 1-2-3® Release 9.7 and Lotus Organizer® Release 6 are all available separately in certain geographic markets. Note that the English language version of SmartSuite contains Organizer Release 5.
How is SmartSuite Release 9.8 compatible with earlier SmartSuite versions?
SmartSuite applications files are upwardly compatible. Document-centric applications such as Lotus Word Pro®, 1-2-3, and Lotus Freelance® can write back to prior version file formats. In addition, 1-2-3 can run existing 1-2-3 macros and 1-2-3 also includes the classic "/" menu key. Word Pro has Lotus Ami Pro® alternative menus and menu help.
How is SmartSuite Release 9.8 compatible with Microsoft Office?
With SmartSuite Release 9.8, it is easy to convert files from earlier versions of SmartSuite and other business applications, including Microsoft® Office. SmartSuite 9.8 file filters exchange documents seamlessly to and from:
Freelance Graphics and PowerPoint
Word Pro and Microsoft Word
1-2-3 and Excel
Word Pro can read all Word files, including Word 97, 2000 and XP, and can save in Word 95/97/2000 format, or lower.
1-2-3 can read and write all Excel version files with improvement in this release. 1-2-3 has an Excel Menu Finder to help you learn the equivalent menu in 1-2-3.
Freelance can read and write to all PowerPoint 97/2000/XP files.
Approach can read Access MDB and other data files, via ODBC.
With custom menus in Word Pro, you can use either Word or Word Perfect menus.
What are some of the highlights of SmartSuite Release 9.8?
Windows XP Support: SmartSuite Release 9.8 supports the Windows XP platform. It provides SmartSuite’s Enterprise customers with streamlined installation and seamless integration between SmartSuite and the operating system. New technologies allow administrators to create user settings centrally and download customization settings automatically. These administrative improvements reduce Help Desk inquiries and total cost of ownership.
Desktop Applications Coexistence: SmartSuite Release 9.8 is data-savvy. SmartSuite users can share files with users of previous versions of SmartSuite and all versions of Microsoft Office, including Office XP. SmartSuite Release 9.8 has enhanced Microsoft Office compatibility, including support for MS WordArt objects. InstallShield for Windows Installer: SmartSuite includes an enhanced install program using Microsoft Software Installer (MSI). The installation features in SmartSuite 9.8 enable quick and easy customizable installation.
