Error description
DB2DDF DCR DM1313 defect pm45572 dpm45572 Display Thread command WLM-info.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All Distributed Data Facility (DDF) users. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: New function to provide information * * related to WLM Enclaves executing in * * a DB2 server environment. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Users need a "real time" way of validating if their remote system related DB2 Enclave threads (DBATs) are executing under the correct WLM Service Class Name. Further, they need to know associated WLM performance related information in order to obtain a complete picture of how the thread is performing relative to its goals.

Comments
The classification attributes that DDF provides to WLM, prior to the first (non-SET) SQL statement in a unit-of-work, are used by WLM to assign an enclave to a service class. A WLM service class gives the enclave its overall performance goal. A WLM service class is comprised of possibly multiple periods of different kinds of performance goals at various importance levels, and each period will have a defined duration. Thus, to understand how a thread's enclave is currently performing, WLM is providing a new service for DB2 to call that will return the enclave's service class name and the current period of the service class. In addition, the importance level of the period and the service class period's performance index will also be returned. The new WLM service can be used in DB2 execution environments that are unrelated to the enclave itself and hence the service allows "real time" command environments to display the information as long as the enclave token value can be known. The Display Thread Type(Active) Detail command report has been modified to call the new service and provide the WLM Service Class Name and associated performance related information that WLM is currently applying to the thread. A new DSNV482I message is being introduced in the Display Thread Detail command report to provide WLM information, WLM-Info, similar in nature to existing Thread-Info (see DSNV436I Thread-Info for example), where multiple values can be provided and each value is delimited by a colon (':'). The WLM Service Class Name, Period Number, Period Importance Level, and Period Performance Index values will be reported. An '*' value will be provided when no value applies. The new DSNV482I message will be provided only if there is at least one value to report. Example: >Display Thread(*) Type(Active) Detail DSNV401I > DISPLAY THREAD REPORT FOLLOWS - DSNV402I > ACTIVE THREADS - NAME ST A REQ ID AUTHID PLAN ASID TOKEN TEST0001 RA * 1 CTHDCORID001 SYSADM DONSQL1 0050 6 V441-ACCOUNTING=HADERLE V442-CRTKN=9.30.113.201.5001.C68EA0176B20 V482-WLM-INFO=DDFSVCLS:1:*:* V445-USIBMSY.SYEC717A.C68EA0176B20=6 ACCESSING DATA FOR ( 1)::FFFF:9.30.113.201 V447--INDEX SESSID A ST TIME V448--( 1) 447:1027 W R2 1025213462763 DISPLAY ACTIVE REPORT COMPLETE DSN9022I > DSNVDT '-DISPLAY THREAD' NORMAL COMPLETION The DB2 10 for z/OS Messages manual is updated with the new DSNV482I messages as follows: ----------------------------------------------------------- DSNV482I V482 WLM-INFO=wlm-info Explanation: This message appears in the output of a DISPLAY THREAD command report when a detail display is specified. The message is issued only if the thread is associated to a z/OS Work Load Manager (WLM) Enclave and provides information that WLM is currently applying to the thread in order to meet its performance goals. wlm-info Wlm-info contains information regarding the WLM characteristics associated to the thread. The following identifiers, separated by a colon (:), are provided: . The WLM Service Class Name. . The WLM service class Period Number. . The WLM Importance Level of the period. . The WLM Performance Index of the service class period. Note that values are scaled by 100, so 100 = 1.0 relative to an RMF report. An asterisk (*) indicates that the value is not known or is not applicable. See the "z/OS MVS Planning: Workload Management" publication for more information on the meaning and use of the values. The message number and subsystem recognition character are not included in this message. However, V482 is included in the message text to identify the message. System Action: Command processing continues. ----------------------------------------------------------- In order to report the WLM information, companion WLM support, provided by z/OS APAR OA35822, must also be installed along with the DB2 support provided by this DB2 APAR, PM45572. This new DB2 function is designed to tolerate the absence of the WLM support, so both APARs can be installed independently of each other at the user's convenience. However, both APARs must be installed in order for DB2 to report the WLM information.
