LO56433: CANNOT CLICK URLS IN NOTES 8.5.2 WITH OS BROWSER

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Users report when clicking some links in the Notes client,
    nothing happens.
    When using the embedded browser it works, with the "default OS"
    browser, it
    doesn't.   We found this may have been caused by removing Google
    Chrome.
    
    Steps to reproduce:
    
    - In Notes standard client, go to File > Preference> Web Browser
    > "Use the
    default I have set for this operating system"
    - Install Google Chrome.   Chrome will set itself as the default
    browser.
    - Restart Notes and test a link to confirm it opens in Chrome.
    - Uninstall Chrome.
    NOTE:  Here when uninstalling Chrome, it prompts to reset the OS
    default.
    Leave this option blank and and do not choose a default
    browser.
    (This was tested with Firefox also installed)
    
    - Restart Notes and now when typing a URL in the address bar or
    clicking an
    http link, nothing happens.
    

Local fix

  • Manually modify the following registry keys to remove Chrome and
    point it to
    iexplore.exe:
    
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\http\shell\open\command\
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\https\shell\open\command\
    
    HKCU\Software\Classes\http\shell\open\command\
    HKCU\Software\Classes\https\shell\open\command\
