Abstract

SONAS includes a version of Samba that is affected by a vulnerability that allows remote code execution as the "root" user.

DESCRIPTION:

    A flaw in the Samba code for handling remote procedure calls over a network is resulting in a serious vulnerability reported against the Samba open-source package. Samba is a suite of Windows interoperability programs for Unix-based operating systems used to support file and print sharing services across a network.
    This vulnerability would allow a remote attacker, originating from an anonymous connection, to execute code on a vulnerable system with root privileges.

    Earlier versions of SONAS may be susceptible to an attack that takes advantage of this vulnerability.

      · Affected releases: SONAS 1.1 through 1.3.0.5-2h.

      · Releases/systems/configurations NOT affected: SONAS 1.3.0.5-2j, 1.3.1 and later versions.

REMEDIATION:


    Vendor Fix(es): The issue was fixed beginning with version SONAS 1.3.0.5-2j and later. SONAS customers running an earlier SONAS version must upgrade to SONAS 1.3.1 or a later version.

    Workaround(s): None.

    Mitigation(s): None.
