Error description

  • he Tivoli Storage Manager client completes the restore with
    return code 196 on objects excluded by default.
    
    Customer/L2 Diagnostics:
    Tivoli Storage Manager client ignore special filesystems and
    their contents by default (a detailed explanation of these
    objects can be found in the Tivoli Storage Manger for UNIX and
    Linux Backup-Archive Client, Installation and Users Guide in
    Chapter Backing up your data, Pre-backup considerations section)
    
    When Tivoli Storage Manager client hits such an object during
    restore,
     the Tivoli Storage Manager client will complete restore instead
    of skipping the object.
    In the dsmerror.log you will find only following messages:
    Return code 196 unknown
    Unknown system error
    
    where 196 mean "object excluded".
    
    At the same time you will find in the actlog the restore
    statistic:

    The problem appears using the commandline client as well as the
    GUI.

    The restore is stopped if a special object(for example /proc)
    encountered. The correct behavior for the restore is to
    exclude such objects.
    

Problem conclusion
