SONAS includes a version of Samba that is affected by a vulnerability that allows remote code execution as the "root" user.

A flaw in the Samba code for handling remote procedure calls over a network is resulting in a serious vulnerability reported against the
Samba open-source package. Samba is a suite of Windows interoperability programs for Unix-based operating systems used to support file and print sharing services across a network.
This vulnerability would allow a remote attacker, originating from an anonymous connection, to execute code on a vulnerable system with root privileges.
Earlier versions of SONAS may be susceptible to an attack that takes advantage of this vulnerability.

Vendor Fix(es): The issue was fixed beginning with version SONAS 18.104.22.168-2j and later. SONAS customers running an earlier SONAS version must upgrade to SONAS 1.3.1 or a later version.
