Problem
This document provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Ricoh AFP printer driver and the cwbaffax.dll file on a Windows 8.1 PC in order to use Facsimile Support/400 (FAX/400) and Enhanced Services to submit faxes from your Windows applications.
Symptom
The IBM AFP printer driver that ships with IBM i Access for Windows in not a signed driver, so it cannot be installed on a Windows 8.1 PC. This document provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Ricoh Production Print Solutions AFP Printer Driver for Windows for use with FAX/400, since the Ricoh AFP printer is a signed driver.
Cause
Windows7 recommended using signed printer drivers, but Windows 8.1 requires signed printer drivers.

Enabling LanMan Authentication and Interactive Services Detection
Before installing and setting up the Ricoh Production Print Solutions AFP Printer Driver for Windows and the cwbaffax.zip file, it is recommended that you go through the instructions in the section tited LanMan Authentication in the following Technote:
N1018525: Windows 7 and IBM i NetServer
Next, setup Interactive Services Detection (ISD) on your Windows 8 PCs.
Several web sites provide instructions for enabling Interactive Services Detection, including the following Microsoft Technet blog entry:

Once LanMan authentication and Interactive Services Detection have been setup, reboot the PC and proceed with installing the Ricoh Production Print Solutions AFP Printer Driver for Windows.
Installing the Ricoh Production Print Solutions AFP Printer Driver for Windows
Install the Ricoh Production Print Solutions AFP Printer Driver for Windows to the IBM i Access for Windows install directory using the following instructions:
1 | Download the Ricoh Production Print Solutions AFP Printer Driver for Windows from http://support.rpp.ricoh-usa.com/internet/dcfdata.nsf/vwWeb/P4000384 |
2 | Save and run the IPSAFPDrv.exe file, but extract the save the files to the C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Client Access\CWBAFP directory instead of the C:\AFP Driver directory. |
3 | If you are prompted with the Overwrite Protection panel, click on "Yes to All" to have the Ricoh AFP printer driver overwrite any existing IBM AFP printer driver files. |
4 | Click on the Finish button to complete the installation of the Ricoh AFP printer driver. |
Installing Files from the cwbaffax.zip File
Install the files from the cwbaffax.zip file using the following instructions:
1 | Download the cwbaffax.zip file from the IBM i Access for Windows FTP site: ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/as400/products/clientaccess/win32/afpprinter/amd64/ver030102/ Note: The cwbaffax.zip file can be used with 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Windows running on either AMD and Intel Xeon processors. |
2 | Save and open the cwbaffax.zip file, then open the "cwbaffax" directory contained in this zip file. |
3 | Extract the contents of the "cwbaffax" directory to C:\, or alternatively, copy the "Program Files (x86)" and "windows" directories, then paste them to your install drive, such as C:\. |
4 | When prompted with the Replace of Skip Files panel, click on "Replace the files in the destination". |
5 | If you are prompted with the Destination Folder Access Denied panel, select "Do this for all current items" and then click Continue. |
6 | Bring up the Windows File Explorer and navigate to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Client Access\CWBAFP" directory. |
7 | Open the AMD64 subdirectory, select the cwbafapi.dll, cwbafp.dll and cwbafpui.dll files, right click the files and select Copy. |
8 | Go back to the "C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Client Access\CWBAFP" directory, right click and select Paste to replace the cwbafapi.dll, cwbafp.dll and cwbafpui.dll files. Note: This replaces the IBM AFP printer driver files with the corresponding files from the Ricoh AFP printer driver. |
9 | When prompted with the Replace or Skip Files panel, click on "Replace the files in the destination". |
10 | When prompted with the Destination Folder Access Denied panel, select "Do this for all current items" and then click Continue. |
Adding a printer that uses the AFP Facsimile Support/400 printer driver
Add a printer that uses the AFP Facsimile Support/400 printer driver using the following instructions:
1 | Bring up the Windows File Explorer to bring up your IBM i system, for example "\\system.domain.com". |
2 | Right click on the IBM i NetServer print share that you have setup for the QFQFS4PRTD output queue in library QURSSYS, then select Open. |
3 | When prompted with the Connect to Printer panel with the "No driver found" message, click OK. |
4 | When prompted with the Add Printer Wizard panel, click on "Have Disk...". |
5 | Specify the "C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Client Access\CWBAFP" directory and click OK. |
6 | Select "IBM AFP Facsimile Support/400" from the list and click OK. |
7 | When prompted with the User Account Control panel, click Yes. |
8 | Windows 8.1 should then open the print queue, which combines spooled files from the QUSRSYS/QFQFS4PRTD output queue with any spooled files on the Windows print queue. |
9 | Test by selecting Printer > Properties from menu bar, then clicking on Print Test Page. or by printing from a Windows application. |
10 | When prompted with the Send Fax panel, type a Telephone number and click on Add, then click on Send. |
