APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • While deploying a large WebSphere Portal image, one of seventy
five virtual machine deployments requested failed to progress
past the execution of a script package.

The deployment history showed the current deployment step as:

Executing script package Disable Connections Integration Pack
v1.0.5 on virtual machine

The detailed trace logs included an HTTP ERROR 500 and
org.apache.http.client.ClientProtocolException
...
Caused by: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Manager is not
running

Local fix

  • The issue encountered occurred only once in seventy five
requests; a new request to deploy the pattern is likely to
succeed.

Problem summary

  • The connection manager code needed to attempt connections in a
try / catch block and handle exceptions.

Problem conclusion

  • The code has been updated to handle connection errors.
