Data Collection for Partial Mirror Error

Technote (FAQ)

Question

What information is required to determine the reason for a partial mirror error when executing the lsvg -l command?

Cause

# lsvg -l <vgname>
0516-1147 : Warning - logical volume <lvname> may be partially mirrored.

Answer

The above error is displayed whenever the values for LPs, PPs and/or PVs are inconsistent, therefore we advise collecting output from the following commands in order to determine if the error indicates a true partial mirror situation or if further data collection/analysis is required.

1. Full output of 'lsvg -l <vgname>'
eg...

$ lsvg -l myvg

LV NAME TYPE LPs PPs PVs LV STATE MOUNT POINT
0516-1147 : Warning - logical volume mylv may be partially mirrored.
mylv jfs2 8 10 10 open/syncd /myfs

2. Full output of 'lslv -m <lvname>'
eg...

$ lslv -m mylv

mylv:/myfs
LP PP1 PV1 PP2 PV2 PP3 PV3
0001 0257 hdisk0 0289 hdisk1
0002 0258 hdisk0 0290 hdisk1
0003 0269 hdisk0
0004 0270 hdisk0
0005 0293 hdisk0
0006 0294 hdisk0
0007 0295 hdisk0
0008 0296 hdisk0

3. Full output of 'lsvg -p <vgname>'
eg

$ lsvg -p myvg

myvg:
PV_NAME PV STATE TOTAL PPs FREE PPs FREE DISTRIBUTION
hdisk1 active 546 357 93..10..36..109..109
hdisk0 active 546 355 93..10..34..109..109

===

4. Output of lspv for the volume group, so we have the list of PVIDs
eg

# lspv | grep myvg
hdisk0 0007b47ceee09538 myvg active
hdisk1 0007b47c8093bb08 myvg active

Examine output to determine if the issue as a true partial mirror situation, or provide the data to your next level rep for analysis and recommended solution.
