General Information

THIS SECTION CONTAINS INFORMATION THAT IS OF GENERAL INTEREST DURING DEVICE INSTALLATION. 6. 07/01/31 Added exploitation and toleration support service information for customers running Server Time Protocol (STP) on z/OS V1R7 and z/OS V1R8. 5. 05/06/27 RUNNING Z/OS GUESTS USING PCI CRYPTO CARDS ON Z890 AND Z990 PROCESSORS Changes in crypto set-up are necessary when migrating from the Cryptographic Coprocessor Facility (CCF) on the zSeries z800 and z900 servers to the PCI cryptographic cards on the z890 and z990. With the z990 and z890, the Cryptographic Coprocessor Facility has been removed and replaced with the Central Processor Assist for Cryptographic Functions (CPACF) and the PCI cryptographic accelerators and coprocessors. This requires changes to the z/VM CRYPTO directory control statement. For CCF, it was necessary to include the CRYPTO Directory Control Statement with the following operands: DOMAIN, CSU, KEYENTRY, SPECIAL and MODIFY. For PCI crypto, the CSU, KEYENTRY, SPECIAL, and MODIFY operands are no longer needed and are ignored if specified. The operands used for PCI crypto are DOMAIN, APDEDICATED, and APVIRT. The APVIRT operand is intended to authorize hardware for SSL acceleration for Linux and VSE guests and is not used for z/OS guests. If the APVIRT operand is specified for z/OS guests, the Integrated Cryptographic Services Facility (ICSF) component of z/OS will not function properly. An example of the CRYPTO directory control statement authorizing a z/OS guest to access the PCI crypto cards is: CRYPTO DOMAIN 1 APDEDICATED 2 3 This statement authorizes the z/OS guest to have dedicated access to crypto queue 1 on both AP 2 and AP 3. The APs specified on the above statement must be selected from the set of APs selected on the PCI Cryptographic Online List on the Crypto Image Profile Page for the VM logical partition. The DOMAINs specified must be selected from the set of domains specified on the Usage Domain Index selections on the Crypto Image Profile Page for the logical partition. For CCF, an additional required step was to define a virtual crypto facility by using either the CRYPTO operand on the CPU directory statement or the DEFINE CRYPTO command. Neither of these are required for PCI crypto. CPACF is available to all guests without any external authorization. No z/VM set-up is required to authorize the z/OS guest to access these functions. 4. 05/01/24 If you are going to use ICSF (Integrated Cryptographic Service Facility) on a Z890 or a Z990, then you need to go to this URL and download the latest level of the ICSF code. The ICSF FMID that ships with this z/OS release (HCR7708) does not have support for the PCIXCC cards. Here is the URL: http://www-1.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/zos/downloads/ When this page loads, click on "z990 and z890 Enhancements to Cryptographic Support ". You will be prompted to register before you can download the code and readme file. After you download and install the code, you should then see the PSP bucket for the ICSF FMID you installed to see what Hiper APARs you may need to apply. ie, If you install HCR770B, the please see the HCR770B PSP bucket. 3. 05/01/10 Customers should check with ISV products to determine if maintenance is required. In particular, fixes may be needed to support the ASN-and-LX Reuse Facility on z/OS 1.6 (with PTF UA12996) and Drvier 55. This service fixes a problem with the display of the model ID in the Stratum 1 node ID displayed by the D ETR command after a concurrent Book ADD. This same problem could also surface as D ETR displaying an incorrect number of usable timing links. -------------------------------------------------------- 26. 07/09/25 The following changes supercede the current item #22 dated 06/12/13 below. Prior to applying the PTF for APAR PK46334 (HIP6160, HIP6170 & HIP6180)or APAR PK47376 (HIP6190), the TCP Segmentation Offload feature (also called OSA Large Send) is ENABLED by default if all the requirements documented in PK02490 are met.
