Error description

  • At z/0S 1.13, 'D GRS,C' command is issued, and the command
    returns with:

ISG375I THE LATCH IDENTITY TABLE IS NOT USABLE FOR CREATOR
    ASID: 002A JOBNAME: RRS
    LATCH SET NAME: SYS.ATRSCSHT.RRS.7F318A40.LATCHSET

RRS code will define a Latch ID Table for the listed latchset.
The 'ID' table allows users of the latch to provide a character
text string that GRS can display when dealing with a specific
latch. The latchset and the latch ID table are seperate
entities and are assumed to be the same number of entries. The
problem here is that RRS is defining one more latch in the noted
latchset, than entries in the latch ID table.

Therefore, when the table is processed it tries to handle the
'undefined' entry, and fails resulting in the error message on
    the 'D GRS,C' command.

The Latch ID table is disabled by GRS, and never processed
again, which means that if there is future latch contention on
this specific set of latches, the 'ID' text string associated
with the specific latch would not be displayed by GRS.

    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
GRS provides the capability to associate Latch "ID" strings
with the Latches in a Latch Set using a Latch ID Table. That
table is assumed to be built with the same number of entries
as the Latch Set it is associated with. The assumption is not
enforced by GRS during the construction of the table.
    .
RRS' SYS.ATRSCSHT Latch ID table is incorrectly constructed
with less entries than the number of Latches in the Latch Set.
Therefore if any processing is accessing the table using the
number of Latches in the Latch Set as the control limit that
processing will go beyond the shorter table that was built.
    .
That overrun can result in an internal processing error in GRS
which when it detects the error disables the whole Latch ID
Table from further reference thus limiting the impact of the
    mismatch in this case.
    .
NOTE: The loss of future references to the WHOLE Latch ID Table
is the ONLY impact of this error on processing. The Latches
are still working as expect but if there is any future
contention for a Latch from this Latch Set then the external ID
display string would not be included in the GRS displays.

Problem conclusion

  • Change the construction of the SYS.ATRSCSHT Latch ID Table in
RRS to match the dimension of the associated Latch Set.
