IJ06703: UNEXPECTED NETWORK UP DURING FAILOVER AT AIX 715 OR 722

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• For PowerHA customers at AIX levels 7.1.5 or 7.2.2
  (RSCT 3.2.3.0), if there is a service IP alias on the same
  subnet as the boot address, and the adapter is declare down,
  while IP changes are being made to move the service address
  somewhere else, PowerHA will receive a report that the
  adapter is back up again, even if it is still down.
  
  The resulting false network_up event will not break the
  failover itself, but it will introduce a danger of future
  resource movements being handled inappropriately, if they
  occur while the adapter is still down and PowerHA is still
  being told it is up.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

• At RSCT 3.2.3.0, a logic error in handling AHAFS events
  during PowerHA IP address handling, when a service and
  boot address are on the same subnet, could lead to Group
  Services erroneously reporting that an interface is UP
  again when it is still down.
  

Problem conclusion

• The error in handling this specific sequence of events
  has been addressed.
