Abstract
IBM Storwize V7000 Unified includes a version of Samba that is affected by a vulnerability that allows remote code execution as the "root" user.

DESCRIPTION:
- A flaw in the Samba code for handling remote procedure calls over a network is resulting in a serious vulnerability reported against the Samba open-source package. Samba is a suite of Windows interoperability programs for Unix-based operating systems used to support file and print sharing services across a network.
This vulnerability would allow a remote attacker, originating from an anonymous connection, to execute code on a vulnerable system with root privileges.
Earlier versions of Storwize V7000 Unified may be susceptible to an attack that takes advantage of this vulnerability.

REMEDIATION:
- Vendor Fix(es): The issue was fixed beginning with version Storwize V7000 Unified 1.3.1.0 and later. It is recommended that customers running an earlier Storwize V7000 Unified version upgrade to latest available version.
