IBM Support

Selecting the incorrect security setting for web deployment results in one or more warning messages for every install action performed against ClearCase, ClearQuest or RequisitePro.

Troubleshooting

Problem

When you install IBM Rational ClearCase 8.0.0.x, 8.0.1.x, 9.0.0.x and 9.0.1.x, Rational ClearQuest 8.0.0.x, 8.0.1.x, 9.0.0.x and 9.0.1.x, or Rational RequisitePro 7.1.3.x and 7.1.4.x, you can provide the security settings for the web deployment tasks, but if you incorrectly specify whether security is enabled, or provide an incorrect username or password, the install action completes with errors or warnings.

Symptom

If the security settings are specified incorrectly, the install action you are performing completes with warning messages:

  • Example:
Exception encountered while deploying application  C:/Program Files (x86)/IBM/RationalSDLC/clearquest/cqweb/lib/TeamEAR.ear
Exception encountered while running script teamAdminUtils.jacl

When you try to access the Administrative console, the specified security settings do not match the settings for the IBM WebSphere Application Server profile that is running.

Cause

During an Installation Manager update, rollback, modify-to-remove, or uninstall operation, you updated the settings on the WebSphere Application Server Security panel with values that do not match the security settings configured for the WebSphere Application Server profile where the application is deployed.

This problem can also occur if the current profile configuration files are replaced by an older, backup configuration file during a product update or re-install operation. During the operation, IBM Installation Manager replaces the newer copy of the profile configuration files in the current installation location with the backup version from Rational.preserve in an attempt to restore your original user configuration. In this case, the security settings specified in the backup configuration might not match the security settings specified on the WebSphere Application Server Security panel in the Installation Manager.

Diagnosing The Problem

This issue can occur in different cases depending on the security configuration. The following list provides examples of some scenarios where the problem can occur:

  • An IBM WebSphere Application Server profile backup is present in the <Rational.preserve>\profiles.preserve location, which does not match the security settings you selected during the Install action.

Example scenario: A backed up profile with security enabled is present in the <Rational.preserve>\profiles.preserve location. During an Install or Modify to add operation, you request a new profile for web application deployment where security is disabled.

  • During an update, rollback, modify-to-remove, or uninstall operation, the WebSphere Application Server Security panel was displayed, and you selected security settings that do not match the security settings specified in the profile where the applications were deployed.

    Example scenarios:
    • The security is disabled in the profile where you installed CCRC WAN Server. When you updated IBM Rational ClearCase to use WebSphere Application Server 8.0.0.x, you updated the security settings on the Installation Manager Security Panel to enable security settings and provided a user name and password. The same problem can occur in reverse: if the security is enabled in the CCRC WAN Server profile and you disable security during an install operation.
    • Security is enabled in the profile where you installed the ClearQuest web server, When you updated IBM Rational ClearQuest to 8.0.0.x, WebSphere Application Server, you specified incorrect user and password credentials on the Security panel presented during the upgrade.
    • During an update, rollback, or install operation, you wanted to change the security settings of the installed IBM WebSphere Application Server profile using the WebSphere Application Server Security panel that was displayed, going from security enabled to security disabled or vice versa.

Resolving The Problem

The WebSphere Application Server Security panel in the Installation Manager is used to specify the current security settings for the profile. These settings must match the settings specified for the WebSphere Application Server profile where the application is deployed.

During an Installation Manager update, rollback, modify-to-remove, or uninstall operation, update security settings on the WebSphere Application Server Security panel in the following cases:

  1. You changed the user name and password after the profile was created and used for deployment.
  2. You changed the security setting to enable or disable security after the profile was created and used for deployment.

If the security settings are specified incorrectly, use the following information to resolve the problem

  • Resolving the security warning messages after update, roll-back, or modify-to-add operation
    • If you get security warning messages when deploying an application to the WebSphere Application Server profile during an install, update, rollback, or modify-to-add operation, complete these steps to resolve the errors:

      1. Use Installation Manager to perform a Modify-to-remove operation. On the WebSphere Application Server Security panel, select the correct security settings for the previously backed up profile.

      2. Delete the contents of the <Rational.preserve>\profiles.preserve folder.

      3. Retry the install, update, rollback, or modify-to-add action.
