Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: DB2 users who exploit CP query parallelism. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DB2 exploitation of the IBM System * * z9 Integrated Information Processor * * (IBM zIIP) for all long running * * CP parallel queries. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Enhances DB2 zIIP support to direct a portion of each child task used to process a long running query utilizing CP parallelism to a zIIP including star schema queries. DB2 includes the number of zIIPs in its decision to take advantage of CP parallelism. If a zIIP is available, a portion of the parallel tasks to process a long running parallel query is directed to run on a zIIP. Each parallel task runs in a separate enclave. Each parallel child process runs under a dependent enclave SRB if executing on behalf of an application accessing DB2 through one of the local DB2 attaches. Each parallel child process runs under an independent SRB enclave if executing on behalf of a DDF server thread. The parallel task is classified using the same classification list used to create the DDF server thread enclave SRB. Refer to the "Parallel Operations and Query Performance" Chapter in the DB2 Application Programming and SQL Guide for more information on CP parallelism.

Comments
This APAR allows portions of the parallel tasks regardless of the access path to be directed to an IBM zIIP. Please refer to closing text of PK18454 for more information on the initial DB2 zIIP support. KEYWORDS: ZIIP/K ž**** PE06/09/25 FIX IN ERROR. SEE APAR PK30548 FOR DESCRIPTION
