With Version 7.1, Tivoli Provisioning Manager has been integrated into the IBM Service Man-agement platform, permitting organizations that wish to extend ITIL best-practice processes into the IT Provisioning space to do so now in a seamless fashion.
Organizations large and small are more and more defining best-practice business process flows for man-aging IT processes and applying these to the inception, planning, execution, and reporting of IT work ranging from day-to-day support to IT projects to major releases. This is enabled by a mixture of tools and technologies that a typical enterprise uses for the different facets of this association between IT business-process and IT work-effort. Typically, diverse tools are used for process enablement and for IT automa-tion: other processes and tools are required to synchronize and reconcile data across these diverse tools.
With the release of Tivoli Provisioning Manager 7.1, IBM has brought together onto one software platform both the IT-process and IT work-effort functions. By deploying one or more of IBM's IT Process Manager Products (like Service Request Manager, Change and Configuration Manager) together with IBM's Tivoli Provisioning Manager, organizations have the option of using a single system that can do IT Process (definition, enablement, and tracking) as well as IT Provisioning, with a smooth flow of data and process between the two.
This whitepaper describes the setting up Tivoli Service Request Manager and Tivoli Provisioning Manager and using the combined system to process an IT Service Request from the inception of the request, through creating a Work Order to fulfill the request, an on to the IT Provisioning automation that executes the request. The example used is a request for software installation on a server in the data-center. Using comparable steps, other IT provisioning scenarios of a similar nature can also be executed.
