White Paper: Tivoli Provisioning Manager 5.1.1: A Disaster Recovery Server Address Change Solution
High availability and disaster recovery (HADR) is a mechanism to ensure the functioning of a computer system in the event of specific failures. High Availability (HA) tends to focus on local site recovery in the event of hardware or software failures. Disaster Recovery (DR) tends to focus on remote site manual restoration mechanisms in the event of massive failure at the local site.
The IBM Tivoli® Provisioning Manager has existing HADR solutions. However, these solutions rely on the server hostname and IP address being maintained on failover. An alternative DR scenario exists where the server hostname and/or IP address cannot be maintained on failover. There may be a number of reasons for this, including network management or enterprise policies.
This document describes some initial installation recommendations to lessen the impact of changing the server address. The steps to update the hostname and IP address for a TPM machine are then described.
