  Removing the front system fan assembly

Attention:

  • Replace a failed fan within 48 hours
  • To ensure proper cooling and airflow, do not operate the HMC for more than 30 minutes with the side cover removed.

To remove the front system fan assembly:

  1. Turn off the HMC and peripheral devices and disconnect all power cords.
  2. Unlock and remove the side cover. (Refer to Removing and Replacing the Cover.)

Start the video ...

  1. Disconnect the fan assembly cable from the system board, making a note of where the cable was connected for later installation.
  2. Press and hold the drive cage release tab. Then, rotate the drive cage out of the chassis (about 3/4 of the way).
  3. Disconnect the blue power cables.
  4. Rotate the drive cage out of the chassis the rest of the way until the retaining tab on top of the cage locks into place.
  5. Press the front system fan assembly release tabs. Then, rotate the fan assembly away from the drive cage slightly.
  6. Remove the blue power cables from the slots on the fan assembly. Then, rotate the fan assembly away from the drive cage and remove the fan assembly from the drive cage.
  7. If you are instructed to return the fan assembly, follow all packaging instructions, and use any packaging materials supplied to you for shipping.
