Enabling Access to the HMC Using a Web Browser

In order to enable remote browser access to the HMC, you must modify the firewall settings of the Ethernet adapter on the HMC. By default, remote browser access to the HMC is disabled.

Note: HMC tasks that require removable media cannot be performed remotely.

You can use the Guided Setup Wizard, the Change Network Settings tasks, or the Remote Operations task to enable remote browser access to the HMC.

 

Using the Guided Setup Wizard or the Change Network Settings Task

The steps to enable remote browser access using the Guided Setup Wizard and the Change Network Settings task are similar. The following steps use the Change Network Settings task:

  1. In the Navigation Pane, select HMC Management.
  2. In the Work Pane, select Change Network Settings. The Change Network Settings window displays.

 

 

 

  1. In the Change Network Settings window, select the LAN Adapters tab.
  2. In the LAN Adapters panel, select Details... The LAN Adapter Details window displays.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  1. In the LAN Adapter Details window, select the Firewall Setting tab.
  2. Under Available Applications, select Secure Remote Web Access.
  3. You can allow any IP address through the firewall or you can allow one or more specific IP addresses through the firewall.
    • If you want to allow any IP address through the firewall, click Allow Incoming.
    • If you want to allow specific IP addresses through the firewall,
      1. Click Allow Incoming by IP Address.
      2. In the Hosts Allowed window, enter the IP address and the network mask.
      3. Click Add.
      4. Click OK.
  4. In the LAN Adapter Details window, click OK.
