Welcome
to the How to Use the Hardware Management Console course!
We will show you how to use the Hardware Management Console (HMC) to accomplish server and logical partition management tasks. Server maintenance and service
applications are covered as well.
Course
Objectives
Here's
what you will learn in this course:
- What the
HMC is used for and what its user interface looks like. And since
one of its main uses server management, we'll explain some server management concepts.
- How to install
and configure HMC hardware and software. We'll show you how to
do a new, "from-scratch" software install, and also
how to install the HMC over an existing system build.
- How to use
the HMC's GUI to create and manage logical partitions (LPARs)
and partition profiles, and carry out dynamic logical partitioning
(DLPAR) operations.

- How to manage
Capacity on Demand resources.
- How to set
system manager security.
- How to access
the HMC's service applications.
Audience
All parts of
this course are directed toward IBM System Service Representatives
(SSRs) and customers. Because the level of participation of SSRs
and customers typically varies depending on the server model, the
information contained in these areas is made available to whoever
needs it.
Prerequisites
A basic understanding
of Web site navigation is all you need. No prior knowledge of an
HMC is assumed.
