Why become a member?
IBM offers this unique, no-charge Academic Initiative program for faculty at institutions worldwide to help teach students market-ready skills. Academic Initiative program membership benefits include:
Who can join?
Faculty members, research professionals at accredited institutions, and IBM employees whose work supports the Academic Initiative can join. Membership is granted on an individual basis. There is no limit on the number of members from an institution that can join.
What does it cost?
Your only cost to join is the time it takes you to fill out the membership application form. After your membership is approved, you are granted access at no charge to most of our program benefits (the Academic Initiative for Cloud offer requires an additional request and approval).
What is involved in the application process?
At a high level, you will complete the following steps:
- Register for a universal IBM ID and password, if you don't already have one.
- Answer a few questions about yourself and your institution.
- Confirm that you agree to the terms of the Academic Initiative program agreement, the Software Usage Guidelines, and the Addendum for Cloud Services. Note that in some countries, local law requires your hard-copy signature.
After you submit your application, we will verify your association with your institution, and soon you will be granted membership into the IBM Academic Initiative program. In some cases, especially in countries where hard-copy signatures are required by law, an IBM Academic Initiative representative will contact you with additional details.
