From time to time I help clients DBClean their member/user tables and I find they have an unsually high number of guest users, and often these users don't have a shopping cart.
Using trace to find the commands that create guest users
The following technique can quickly show you the commands creating Guest Users. When collecting trace, keep in mind it will only print if the command was originally executed with a Generic user.
Guest users created from Remember me
Guest users are also created if Remember me for guests is enabled. The setting delayNewPersistentGuestSession is used to delay creating a guest session. It's enabled by default. With this setting, a new guest session is not created until an action cannot be performed as a partially authenticated user.
