Hello again from Orlando. It's Day 4, the last Day of IBM Innovate 2014.
Although some of Innovate's technical attractions are starting to close shop, and much of the hallway talk of development and test has turned to travel and home, there is still a strong lineup of System z sessions today. Today's sessions cover the latest on debugging and code coverage, continuous testing and virtualization, DevOps ROI, and more.
This entry finds me still a bit dizzy from Innovate's Universal Studios Special Event last night. A late meeting forced me to miss the first hour, but the coaches were still running, so I jumped aboard thinking I'd grab a sandwich at the park for some per-diem relief and make a quick exit. No so fast. Before I had even reached the dinner quarter I was swept up by a band of System z technical sellers and before long we were riding the Rip Ride Rockit, wreaking the Revenge of the Mummy, and in between being amusingly worked over by Transformers, Blues Brothers, and Hollywood Pharaohs on stilts. But I digress.
One of my other jobs here at the conference has been working in the Open Lab, a place where you can try out the latest IBM Rational development technologies at your own pace, supported by in-depth tutorials. Popular labs this year covered UrbanCode Deploy and Release, BlueMix, and DOORS Next Generation. The line-up of favorites reflects the larger themes of the week, and currents in the industry as a whole, where IBM clearly leads: enabling DevOps automation and agility, collaboration, traceability. "Innovation at speed."
Special thanks to my friends in the Rational System z user and enablement communities for an unforgettable week!
