Log Analysis can help you save time and effort which ultimately will help you resolve problems quicker, hopefully BEFORE your management team starts breathing down your neck.
In March, 2014, IBM shipped IBM SmartCloud Analytics – Log Analysis z/OS Insight Packs V1.1. This tool enables you to consume and index logs from multiple sources, including z/OS, so you can perform quick searches across multiple logs from a single search interface. Having access to all of the logs from a single search interface enables you to debug problems in your multi-tier, multi-component applications, saving you time and effort. Since the tool consumes the WebSphere logs and the z/OS Syslog, you have access to a huge selection of z/OS messages; OS and subsystem (DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ, etc.) messages.
In addition, the tool will perform analysis on the logs to surface probable errors while you are searching. The focus for the initial release of the z/OS Insight Packs was to provide insight for customers running WebSphere and DB2 on z/OS.
We have recently released new features that will enable insights for CICS as well as a tool that makes it even easier to configure the log sources that you want to feed into the log analysis engine. These new features are now available in IBM SmartCloud Analytics – Log Analysis z/OS Insight Packs V126.96.36.199.
Also, from this same interface, you can search the IBM supports sites for documents (white papers, tech notes, APARs, etc.) related to the problem you are trying to resolve.
