IBM System z has a long history of working with Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to provide a rich ecosystem of software solutions for our mutual System z customers. The number of ISVs and applications on System z continues to grow yearly. As the 50th Mainframe anniversary activities continue to roll out over the next several weeks you'll see information from many of our ISVs whom we've worked with for many years but also from new ISVs who also see the business opportunities around the explosion of new technologies on the mainframe - whether it's Social, Mobile, Big Data & Analytics, Cloud or Linux. IBM has a wide variety of programs to assist ISVs with their development of solutions for the System z platform and we urge ISV’s to join IBM’s PartnerWorld program and find out what they have been missing!
If you’re an ISV developing products for z/OS, z/VSE, zVM and Linux on z you can participate in a wide variety of early marketing and technical information, as well as obtain access to pre-generally available hardware and software. Certain criteria and restrictions apply. Check out the IBM Dallas Technical Support Center for program availability: http://dtsc.dfw.ibm.com/
Or, if you need access to a development system we have many options to offer you through the IBM Innovation Centers. Even if you would like to own a development system - large or small, our System z Develop Discount offering is here to help: ibm.com/partnerworld/pwhome.nsf/weblook/zpdt_zdd.html
These are just a brief mention of some programs that IBM provides to our System z ISV partners.
Listen to what some of our ISVs have to say about their latest efforts for System z:
A Message from FIS
The IBM mainframe and FIS LLC have a very long, shared history that began in the late 60s. The mainframe was the backbone of the original Systematics core banking solutions. As the mainframe evolved over the years, so did our solutions, expanding both in available features and processing capacity. Initially, the business focus was facilities management, or outsourcing, of bank data processing for small and mid-size banks. However, the 1980s began a shift in focus and platforms as our flagship solutions switched from DOS to OS/VS, MVS, OS/390, and eventually z/OS. The expansion of the mainframe and its associated operating platforms allowed FIS to attract and support much larger customers as our business simultaneously expanded to include on-site, client-managed installations and the international market.
Today FIS core banking solutions support some of the largest banks in the world, thanks in part to the robust nature of the mainframe environment. Over 114 million deposit accounts are processed daily using the Systematics IMPACS and Savings Time solutions. Our Advanced Lending Solution supports 11 of the top 100 international banks and 28 of the top 100 US banks. We continue to expand our capabilities, taking advantage of the latest IBM solutions, such as the zEnterprise EC12. Congratulations to IBM on the 50th anniversary of the mainframe. We look forward to our continued partnership. To learn more about FIS vist www.fisglobal.com

Yi Lian Zhong (YLZ), a professional, leading provider of information technology and services in China, needed to build a cloud computing platform to provide social services(livelihood services) to large population and enterprises by leveraging it's existing capacity in Social Security and Healthcare applications.
YLZ has built the People's Livelihood Cloud Platform with an IBM System z mainframe running Linux as the foundation. YLZ selected System z for its reliability, security and cost effectiveness, and the ability to scale easily will help YLZ manage the unpredictable nature of transaction peaks and valleys without incurring additional costs. With IBM's help, YLZ's Livelihood Cloud Platform and Social Security System have achieved 100% performance improvement comparing to it's original environment.
YLZ: The People's Livelihood Cloud Platform, Social Security System, etc.
IBM HW: z10 EC, zEnterprise 114, Storge DS8700, Storwize V7000, TS1120, etc.
IBM SW: z/VM, Linux on System z, TSAMP, Omegamon, etc.
With the cloud platform on IBM System z running Linux, YLZ will expand its existing services available in Fujian Province (for 30 million people) to more Chinese provinces. It helps YLZ strategic transformation to Cloud and Big Data model, and also improve the life of citizens in China.
Now IBM and YLZ are working together to repeat the success model to other directions.
"As a large-scale cloud service platform specializing public service, we pay more attention to the system RAS features. We selected system z as our mainframe platform for its state of the art features and performance. And the system has achieved the predefined service level. Considering in a longer term, the cost of ownership is low. In addition, use of ELS platform has made the system open while keep it compatible. Based on the above, we would recommend IBM System z”.
