There’s always something exciting about the first day of a major IBM conference , The anticipation of what you know will be some great announcements
The knowledge that you’ll hear not only from IBM, but some leading edge clients who are leveraging latest IBM and Business partner technologies. The buzz you get when surrounded by so many passionate and focused people from all around the world .
For me , today’s opening day has certainly been no exception , and hearing the announcement on IBM Cloud Marketplace launching services for Big Data Analytics , Mobile and Security which will really enable clients to easily build upon and integrate their systems of record, harnessing the power of the core information and data that reside on the mainframe middleware stack certainly created a lot of noise .
As the main tent session ended, key breakouts that I joined offered standing room only as many attendees like me wanted to find out more and this years Impact certainly has more content than ever to show the importance of the CICS and WebSphere z/OS in the ecosystem that many of our clients now run .
I attended the CICS track opening this afternoon , and was reminded just how critical to so many organisations this flagship product is – and just how vibrant – as it is central to many businesses as they take their key transactional based applications and open them up , with Worklight , to a Mobile business strategy. Gary Barnett, a principal analyst from Ovum added his commentary and weight to the story .
As this year is the 50th anniversary of the mainframe , the innovation across System z software is front and foremost as IBM demonstrates it’s leadership . And is a reminder that all things can be made possible on a mainframe – from Air traffic control systems, through ATMs , barcodes, weather modelling and the smart car . With all this buzz around the vibrancy of the IBM Mainframe the Infrastructure Matter booth on the EXPO has been packed with customers and partners wanting to know more .
so much more to come at Impact 2014 !!
